Skal International Pittsburgh Chapter celebrated the new year with a new Skal experience at the Carnegie Science Center. The 2nd floor exhibit area was transformed into a unique reception space with food stations and presentation platform. Skalleagues were able to explore the world's largest permanent robotics exhibition, roboworld™ and take a walking tour of western Pennsylvania at the world-renowned Miniature Railroad & Village®.

The Science Center has the ability to host events on every floor from the renting the entire building to the 5th floor balcony area. Each floor offers a new experience with different exhibits to explore. For example, SportWorks is a popular space for team building activities and birthday parties, which offers close to 30 interactive experiences in three areas: LifeWorks, Physics of Sports, and Sports Challenge. Even bring science to your event. The Science Center offers a portable planetarium – great for proms!

Director of Special Events, Tamara Birchfield presented the Carnegie Science Center expansion plan for the $29.8 million four-floor, 48,0000-square-foot PPG Science Pavilion in 2018. The beautiful addition is part of the SPARK! Campaign, which has collected $42.5 million, and is designed to complement the North Shore riverfront, while offering a one-of-a-kind destination for public exploration in science and technology.

FedEx Stem Learning Labs

Six-thousand square feet of the ground floor will house nine specialized classrooms, which are designed to handle inquiry-based instruction and project-based learning, giving students the freedom and the space to investigate problems encountered in real-world situations. Of the nine, two rooms are designated specially for early learners, and the other a wet lab, to support biology, chemistry and physics programs.

This space can also be used for meetings with capacities up to 100. The Science Center looks forward to hosting classes, workshops, summer camps, teacher professional development, and STEM education programs.

Scaife Exhibit Gallery

The first and second floors have dedicated 14,000 square feet to a Special Exhibitions Gallery, which will lead the way for the return of world-class, blockbuster shows to the city and Carnegie Museums. The new space can be used not only by the Science Center, but also by its sister museums – Carnegie Museum of Art, Carnegie Museum of Natural History, and The Andy Warhol Museum – to showcase art and science exhibitions that are too large for existing facilities.

PointView Hall Highlights

PointView Hall opening this year, offers hard to compete views of the city skyline with a 1,600 square-foot outdoor terrace and overlook. Its modern design (9,800+ sq. ft.) will attract wedding receptions, holiday parties, Bar/Bat Miztvahs, corporate receptions, lectures, galas, fundraisers, and other festivities.

When you rent space from the Carnegie Science Center, guests can enjoy free admission to the Science Center the day of the event.

Welcome Christina O’Toole, Luxury in Travel

Skalleague, Bob Page, Director of Marketing & Sales, Omni William Penn welcomed Christina to the club who has 29 years of industry experience.

She graduated from Montour High School and studied at Robert Morris University. Christina started, her own agency, International Travel Service, in hometown of Robinson Twp. She remained the owner up until 2001. Christina is now an independent contractor for Travel Leaders, and focuses her attention on luxury travel in the Luxury Sales Division.

We are pleased to have Christina as she models the Skal culture of community servitude. Ms. O’Toole serves as a board member for the Pittsburgh CLO and Amachi organizations. She is a loving mother and enjoys many different hobbies such as yoga, tap dancing, skiing, cooking, wine, and planning parties. It was once her dream to become a Rockette. Again, we want to warmly welcome Christina O’Toole to the club!
